Old Elbe Tunnel Hamburg, Germany
Données des projets
Localisation: Hamburg, Allemagne
The landmarked St. Pauli Elbe tunnel has been connecting the “Landungsbrücken“, the jetties, with the harbour area in Steinwerder for 100 years. It is a landmark of the city and represents engineering art because it was the first tunnel under a river on the European continent. Ten years ago, the access buildings on both sides of the river Elbe were refurbished, and it is now the turn of the eastern of the two 426-meter long tunnel tubes, at a depth of about 25 meters.
Exigences
- Need of a formwork carriage solution adjusted to the project specifications, based on standardized system components.
- Timely completion of the inner shell in a half-week cycle.
Client
ARGE Alter Elbtunnel
HC Hagemann GmbH Co.KG, Hamburg
Ed. Züblin AG, Direktion Ingenieurbau Nord, Hamburg
Avantages pour le client
- Weekly completion of two sections respectively, according to schedule
- Few ties in the wall area due to system walers up to UU 200
- Easy changeover for different cross-sections
- Reduced number of staff needed due to self-moving or movable solutions for the moving of complete units
- All components adjustable

We complete two cycles per week with the PERI formwork carriage solution. The technical support from the PERI engineers includes the detailed planning during the preparation phase and the help during the construction phase, with very short reaction times, in particular in case of unforeseeable events at the jobsite.
Solution PERI
- The VARIOKIT engineering construction kit is used for the formwork carriage solution adjusted to the project specifications, based on standardized system components and adapted to each type of construction and each cross-section.
- With the wall formwork carriage and an arched slab formwork carriage which is two cycles behind, two sections with a cycle length of 12 meters each can be completed every week. Here the wall formwork carriage serves for the advance fabrication of the side walls and at the same time as the working platform for the armoring and installation work on the arched slab. Despite the small tunnel cross-section and a track width of only 1.92 meters, it was possible to implement the wall and slab formwork carriages to a great extent with standardized VARIOKIT system components from PERI’s product portfolio. Both the hydraulic support during shuttering and striking as well as the lifting and lowering were taken into consideration. The delivery via a vehicle elevator and the special mounting situation in front of the tunnel tubes were considered for the formwork planning.
